چکیده

There are many sets of information in the literature (e.g., papers, books and websites) about great achievements that expected for aerospace gas turbine engines by employment ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) thermally sprayed environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) their hot zones combustion chambers, vanes, shrouds, blades afterburners). Among these achievements, it is typically highlighted (i) weight reduction, (ii) reduced fuel consumption, (iii) higher operation temperatures, (iv) superior thrust-to-weight ratio (v) lower emission toxic gases to atmosphere. Although true, they generally not well-explained reader on how together come be. In addition, according “conventional wisdom”, some engineering feats fact opposing each other temperatures versus emissions). The objective this tutorial paper present achieved concomitant combination imaginative engineering. It will explain non-stop driving force increasing temperatures; show basic concepts CMCs, paramount need EBCs, complexity creating EBC architectures via air plasma spray (APS). Finally, highlights EBCs/CMCs tested at high temperature be provided. content shall understood anyone with knowledge materials processing surface

Plasma spray deposition of tri-layer environmental barrier coatings

n air plasma spray process has been used to deposit tri-layer environmental barrier coatings consisting of a silicon bond coat, a mullite interiffusion barrier, and a Yb2SiO5 top coat on SiC substrates. Solidified droplets in as-deposited Yb2SiO5 and mullite layers were discovered to be epleted in silicon. This led to the formation of an Yb2SiO5 + Yb2O3 two-phase top coat and 2:1 mullite (2Al2O...

Phlogopite glass-ceramic coatings on stainless steel substrate by plasma spray

Macor coatings on 316 alloys substrates were prepared by plasma spraying. The crystallization temperature, thermal expansion coefficient of mica glass-ceramic were at 900ºC and 40× 10−7/◦C respectively. The microhardness of obtained glass-ceramic coating was 6.8GPa and the coefficient friction was 0.98 .

Superhydrophobic Ceramic Coatings by Solution Precursor Plasma Spray

This work presents a novel coating technique to manufacture ceramic superhydrophobic coatings rapidly and economically. A rare earth oxide (REO) was selected as the coating material due to its hydrophobic nature, chemical inertness, high temperature stability, and good mechanical properties, and deposited on stainless steel substrates by solution precursor plasma spray (SPPS). The effects of va...

Novel Thermal Barrier Coatings Produced by Axial Suspension Plasma Spray

Ceramic Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) on superalloy components are being used successfully in land-based gas turbine and aircraft engines. These coatings are generally made by either air plasma spraying (APS) or electron beam physical vapour deposition (EB-PVD). In general, EB-PVD TBCs have superior durability due to the columnar structure, but they are very expensive compared to APS TBCs. EB...

Phosphor-Doped Thermal Barrier Coatings Deposited by Air Plasma Spray for In-Depth Temperature Sensing

Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)-based thermal barrier coating (TBC) has been integrated with thermographic phosphors through air plasma spray (APS) for in-depth; non-contact temperature sensing. This coating consisted of a thin layer of Dy-doped YSZ (about 40 µm) on the bottom and a regular YSZ layer with a thickness up to 300 µm on top. A measurement system has been established; which include...
